L’Oréal USA Pulls Shu Uemura from U.S. Stores (ie STOCK UP BITCHES)
Another popular cosmetic brand is leaving United States department stores and boutiques: L’Oréal USA has announced it will phase out retail operations for Shu Uemura in the coming months. According to L’Oréal USA representatives, the decision was based on the brand’s relatively low stateside sales.
“Shu Uemura is a unique and vibrant brand, but it represents a very small part of our luxury business,” said Carol Hamilton, president of L’Oréal USA’s luxury division, in a statement. “We decided that L’Oréal USA would be better served by focusing on our other strategic luxury brands like Lancôme, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Kiehl’s and fragrances.”
Because L’Oréal USA declined to disclose sales numbers for specific brands, it’s not clear how Shu Uemura sales compared to those of other L’Oréal-owned luxury brands.
The cosmetics company, created in 1983 and named for its founder, is known for its eyelash curlers and false eyelashes, as well as skin-care products and make-up tools. United States customers can still buy products on the company’s Web site, www.shuuemura.com; the products United States consumers buy online will be shipped from Canada. Shu Uemura will still be sold in 17 other countries, according to L’Oréal spokesperson Rebecca Caruso, and Shu Uemura Art of Hair will continue to be sold in select salons the United States.
“We are working with our retail partners to determine the best exit strategy and most likely this will take place over the next several months and not all at the same time,” Caruso said, adding, “I can’t discuss the number of employees affected by the closure except to say that it is a very small number.”
Review: Forever 21 in Southcentre WA
Ever since I went to NYC a few years ago I was introduced to the awesomeness that is Forever 21. Well, few months ago we finally got a Forever 21 in Vancouver and I’ve been in a few times and nothing has caught my eye. Pants, skirts and dresses where an absolute no go as sizes go, and some of the XL shirts would fit depending on the style, but with the crowds and the sheer amount of stuff to look through, it was super frustrating to deal with.
Well, after browsing around Musings Of A Fat Fashionista I’ve come to find out that Forever 21 actually carries plus sizes. Of course, the store in Vancouver doesn’t, so on my recent trip to Seattle, I hauled my ass in there to see for myself.
At first, I was a bit disappointed. They have the plus sizes in their own section, but there isn’t as much as I was looking forward too. It is a bigger selection than online, but the racks where very disorganized.
I was looking for a particular top they have online, but I could only find one in a 3x. I asked up front if they had anymore and apparently they had one in my size, but no one offered to help find it, and I never found another. FML!
Anyways, I tried on a couple different shirts styles and I was mostly a XL or 1X. I did buy a dress in a 2X (I probably could have done with a 1X but I figure it might shrink up a bit). But my best find a was pair of jeans in a 16 short.
YES. JEANS. IN. A. 16. SHORT. Jeans I don’t have to hem. I’m such a happy panda about it.
Pictures are coming soon! I’ll show the entire haul. All in all, you don’t go into the store for the greatest customer service, and you have to do quite a bit digging to find what you want. But, the clothes are cute, and SHORT JEANS.
Shiny Things!
So the other day Angela and I where trolling around Pacific Centre windowing shopping and shit. She went into Aldo to look at a couple purses and I got distracted by all the accessories. Now I have a soft spot in my little, black, heart for pearls, feathers, and glitter, and there was tons of necklaces and headbands with all those things.
They where nice, but I felt a bit like Goldilocks. Some where too short, others too long, nothing really worth the 15-25 dollar price. So we quickly came to the conclusion that we could get our Martha Stewart on and make some shit up. I haven’t had a chance to hit up Micheal’s, but I decided to look through a bunch of my Grandma’s costume jewelry (she was a fierce old lady!). Here is what I found.

Nylon : Love Hurts February 2010
I’ve never really bought Nylon before. But a few months back I was going to Vegas and noticed that Nylon is the States is way cheaper than Canada, so I picked up a copy to occupy my time.
Even though Megan Fox was on the cover (ick) I fell in love with the Magazine. So this month, I’ve dragged every friend I know to the Magazine section of every store I’ve been in, to find February’s issue.
Well, I finally found it, and my shopping list has grown since reading. Though, disappointed by the severe lack of skirts… I’m going to jot down my favourite things here so I can remember to try and buy them!
